A Beginning...

Ahh...so we just start.

I began knitting a week ago or so. I've always wanted to learn to knit, but mom didn't. So now that I'm all grown up, I get to learn.

I learned to knit on the net. It only seems right that I log my progress on the net too.

I love the touch of the fibers. I love the colors. I love the textures. I love the meditative peace.

What have I done so far? What am I working on now? Where do I want to go?

So far, in one weekend, I made two lovely scarves--both in garter stitch. The third is almost done. I've been putting off finishing it because I'm not sure what I'm going to work on next--and I don't want to have nothing to do!

The first scarf used a fairly simple yarn--not too much texture, but lots of color. I think it was called Noho. Smaller needles: 10.

The second used a highly textured yarn and bigger needles (13). A bit more challenging, but it worked up very quickly.

The third is a lovely, lightweight yarn that has two strands: a mohair and a metallic. I'm using really big needles, 17 I think. The resultant scarf is airy and beautiful. While I'm knitting it, I keep thinking of clothes I can make using the interesting color combinations of pink, orange, brown, mossy green, black, turquoise blue.

I think varigated yarn could be an interesting source for picking colors for fashion design or for quilts.

What's next: I have 3 skeins of this very soft lime green stuff. I just bought "Stitch 'n Bitch". I'll do the ribbed scarf next. Since I don't know how to purl yet, this will give me a good start.
